Marko Arnautovic is an Austrian professional football player. He was born on 18 April 1989 in Floridsdorf by a Serbian father, Tomislan Arnautovic, and an Austrian mother, Gabriela Arnautovic. Marko currently plays as a forward for Shanghai SIPG.

At an early age, Arnautovic played for several football clubs in Vienna. In 2016, Marko signed for Twente, Dutch club. He played for the Under-19 FC Twente in the 2007–08 season  (the season which they won youth championship in) and scored 22 goals in 24 appearances. In season 2007/08, he had 16 appearances for FC Twente senior team. In the season after, Marko Arnautovic scored 14 goals for FC Twente, which had a very good season then.

In August 2009, Marko Arnautovic moved to Inter (loan). He didn’t have remarkable moments there (just three appearances and 0 goals). In 2010, Arnautovic signed a four-year deal with a German team, Werder Bremen. While being there, he scored 14 goals in 72 matches, which is far away from an impressive statistics of a striker.

English journey

From 2013 to 2019, he played in England. The first four years he spent in Stoke City and the last two in West Ham United. He scored 43 goals for those English teams (22 FOR Stoke City and 21 for West Ham United, the difference in scored goals for those two teams is just one goal even if he had more than two times more appearances for Stoke City). When he moved to West Ham United, the reported fee was a club’s record-fee (fee of £20 million).  For a fee of £22.4 million, Arnautovic moved to Shanghai SIPG in July 2019.

When it comes to Arnautovic’s characteristics, it is important to say that he is very strong at long shots, passing, holding on the ball, and finishing. His weakness is the fact that he thinks that his job is only to score, which means that he doesn’t contribute to the defense. He likes to shot from a distance a lot.

Problematic behavior

While being a child, Arnautovic was well-known as a little boy with a lot of energy. Marko has always been very competitive, and he wanted to win and be the best, every time he was involved in any kind of competition. His energy was sometimes very unproductive. Because of his huge energy, he sometimes expresses very problematic behavior. Due to his problematic behavior, Arnautovic was released by a lot of youth clubs. As a result of his controversial nature, he is known as a footballer who played for a lot of youth clubs, in total 7 youth clubs!

Racially abusive? True or fake news?

Marko was once accused of racially abusing, but the evidence was not found, so the case was dismissed. When he was on loan in Inter Milan, José Mourinho said that Arnautovic was a fantastic person with the attitude of a child.

When playing in Bremen, he was caught speeding with one of his teammates, and he was usually described as an arrogant person. These are just some of the proofs of his problematic nature. In 2010, Arnautovic signed a four-year deal with a German team, Werder Bremen.

His father, Tomislav, is pretty rich and known as an Austrian celebrity who is often pictured by Austrian media when watching son’s games from stands. His mother is a fulltime housekeeper. He takes care of her husband and children. She is very proud of her husband and sons. Marko’s brother is his manager. He is married to a German girl with Polish ancestry, and people who know him say that she is the only person that could ever keep him grounded.
